William "Bill" Joseph Whitten died peacefully in his home in Evansville on January 29,2017. Bill is survived by wife Auddene of Evansville; son Gordon Whitten of Dallas, Texas; former daughter-in-law Lydia Whitten of Casper; daughter Teha Harris (Chris) of Wills Point, Texas; daughter Lea Whitten of Evansville; grandchildren Marilyn Whitten, Christopher Whitten, Gregory Tripp, Maxine Spradlin, Angeleena Carter and Jessica Harris; as well as six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He also is survived by brothers John Whitten (Joann) of Maricopa, AZ; and Ronald Whitten (Sharlee) of Pueblo, Colorado. He was preceded in death by brother Thomas Whitten, as well as his parents. Bill was born in Mesilla Park, New Mexico on November 29, 1936, to Monica and Thomas Whitten. Raised with his brothers in Pueblo, Colorado, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force and served a tour of duty in Japan. He married Auddene Clark in Pueblo on May 6, 1958, and graduated from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado, in 1963. Following graduation, Bill started a career in the insurance industry with Crawford and Company. In 1978, the family relocated to Casper, where Bill continued to work as an insurance adjuster-starting his own business, Rainbow Claims Service, in 1982-until retirement in the Casper area. Bill was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus, in Casper. Bill loved Wyoming for its natural beauty and exceptional fishing, owning a second home at Alcova Lake for many years. He also considered himself a "winter Texan," traveling annually with Auddene to Corpus Christi, Texas, for warmer temperatures and even more fishing. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 8, 2017 at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery, 80 Veterans Road in Evansville, with reception to follow.
