William Robert (Bill) Ewel was born on August 16, 1924 and passed away on Thursday March 30, at the age of 92. Bill, a long-time resident of Douglas, came to reside in Casper, WY following the death of his wife, Betty Ewel, approx. 4 years ago, to be closer to his step-daughter Deborah (Walton) Schiltz. Bill was raised on Esterbrook Mountain, outside of Douglas, by his grandparents, Edward and Cora Bell Ewel, and his mother, Berenice Ewel-Russell. He graduated in 1942 from Douglas High School along with his high school sweetheart, Betty Peterson, whom he married 50 years after high school. Bill went into the service in 1943 and served for 7 ½ years in the Army Air Corp as a Staff Sergeant in the 16th Bombardment Group in the Asiatic Pacific and in the US Airforce Reserve. His employment over the years included Law Enforcement (to include his own detective agency), Fish & Game, the US Forest Service, and oil field work. He reunited with his high school sweetheart, Betty, and they were married in 1992 and shared 20 years of marriage, residing in Douglas, until her passing in 2013. Bill had 4 step-children from his marriage to Betty and so with their spouses and families, he had a total of 92 kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. His Memorial will be on Saturday, April 15 at 2pm at Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper. Military honors will be presented by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and Natrona County United Veterans Council.
