William Cowan

March 29, 1941 — January 6, 2018

William ‘Bill' Daniel Cowan, aged 76, passed away on 6th Jan 2018 in Casper. Bill was born in Douglas, North Dakota to John and Johanna Cowan, the 9th of 15 children. He played sports in high school, graduating in 1959 to join the US Army. After serving overseas, he returned to North Dakota to begin college. There he met and married Teresa McDonald and together they moved to Lingle, where they raised 3 children. Bill was manager of Rose Brothers, an active member of the American Legion, and coached his sons little league team to 2 championships. On Sundays he often helped to usher or serve coffee and doughnuts after mass at St Rose Catholic Church in Torrington. Bill chaperoned several trips of the CYO group, and was considered a second Dad by many of the kids he knew. In 1993, Bill moved to Casper and purchased the Kopper Kettle restaurant where he spent 20 years laughing and joking with a cast of regulars. After retiring in 2012, he spent his free time at the Casper Senior Center playing poker. He sometimes won. He joined St Patricks Church and became a Eucharistic Minister. At heart, Bill was a warm, generous man who loved knowledge, people, and more than anything, being surrounded by his family. He will be greatly missed. Bill is survived by his wife, Teresa, and his children, Dan Cowan, Melissa Cowan-Jones, Beth Cowan-Erskine. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Bill's name to the Casper Senior Center and to Cancer Research.
