William Carpenter

William F. Carpenter, 96, died July 17, 2016. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11:00AM at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church. There will be a viewing Thursday July 21 at Bustard's Funeral Home from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Bill was born October 23, 1919 in Kingston, PA, the son of Ziba and Bessie (Wildrick) Carpenter. In 1945 he married Doris Christensen. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served for almost four years, six months of which was in Newfoundland and a part which was at the Casper Air Base. He was a 1949 graduate of Syracuse University, after which he was employed at Marathon Oil Company for 33 years. He was a Certified Professional Landman, a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, and a Life Member of the Wyoming Association of Professional Landmen. He also was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, a life member of Elks AF&AM #42, and served on other civic committees including an early YMCA board and driving for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. Bill enjoyed his family, playing golf, fishing, and gardening. In his retirement years he and his wife spent winters in California, Florida, and, most recently, Arizona, where he had many good friends. He liked people and made friends easily. He had a good sense of humor. He thought that keeping active was important and was always on the go. Survivors include his wife, two sons, Bob and Ken (Margaret) of Casper, grandsons Patrick (Gina) of Gillette, Michael (Amy) of Duncan, SC, and Colin (Amanda) Gibbs of Jackson, N.J, and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1760 East 12th Street, Casper, WY 82601, or Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson, Casper, WY 82601. Bustard's Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. He died a happy man.
