Casper native and long time resident, Wesley J. Briggs passed away in his home on June 13, 2017. He was born June 5, 1925 to Charles and Irene Beech. Wesley's father died while tending sheep in Kaycee, WY. His mother Irene married Milo Briggs which adopted Wesley. He attended Willard Elementary and graduated Natrona County High School in 1943. After completing high school he joined the Navy serving his country as a radio man and gunner on an aircraft carrier stationed in the Pacific Theater during World War II. When he returned home he married Ella Fern Hammond and raised three children. Wesley was an enterprising young man and opened a little hamburger joint in Casper as what most people affectionately known as The Brig. Wes repaired televisions in conjunction with earning an Associates Degree in electronics. He worked for several plumbers in Casper, while learning the trade and achieving his Master's Plumber license. Wesley went to work for the Standard Oil Company after he married and retired from there in 1981. While working at the refinery, he started his own plumbing business known as Briggs Plumbing and Heating, retiring in 2007 at the age of 82. Wesley had an engaging smile and always loved chatting with many of his friends and family. He loved his garden of gardenias and the many variety of vegetables and flowers. Everyone benefitted from his master green thumb. Wesley was an all to familiar face daily at the Senior Center in Casper and "tripping the light fantastic" every Saturday night at the local senior citizen dances. Wes enjoyed many hobbies to include: fishing, gardening, camping and tinkering in his shop. He was always up for a challenge fixing anything that came across his path. He received an invitation to be on the Honor Flight for World War II Veterans to Washington D.C. for honoring our veterans for their special service to our country. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Irle Briggs; and wife Ella Fern Briggs. He is survived by daughter, LaVonna Farmer (LaDon) of Kingwood, TX; and sons, Wesley Wayne Briggs (Jenny)of Casper, WY; and Robert Dean Briggs (Kimberly) of Hammond, LA. He has 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Wes is remembered in life for the love of friends and family, his loved of his country and the great state of Wyoming. Viewing for the public will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 18th at Bustard's Funeral Home. Services for Wesley will be held at the chapel at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, WY at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017. Reception to follow at 1:30 at the Casper Senior Center complex.
