Virginia Michelle McCarthy

December 9, 1955 — March 2, 2025

Virginia Michelle McCarthy, lovingly known as Ginny or Woo-Woo by her brother Tim, found her place among God and the rest of the Martin crew on March 2, 2025 peacefully leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.

Born on December 9, 1955 in Buffalo, NY to Bud (Edward) and Virginia Martin, she was a devoted daughter and cherished sister to Donna, Vinny, Eddie, Elly, and Timmy. Ginny selflessly devoted herself to those in need, including her mother, Virginia, who struggled with Alzheimer's and her sweet brother Eddie. Ginny was a caregiver by nature and profession dedicating her life to being a CNA. She gave more of herself than she had, always putting others first.

Her greatest pride and joys were her three children, Kevin, Brian, and Julie who she adored beyond measure. She was also blessed with two daughters in law- Mindy and Pam, and a son in law, Erik whom, when she wasn’t tormenting, she grew to love deeply and developed a meaningful relationship with. She found immense happiness in her seven grandchildren; Evelynn, Kj, Abi, Brynn, Brook, Liv, and Arthur showering them with love, laughter and the occasional playful trick. A true master of mischief, Ginny was known for her quick wit, love of a good joke, and her uncanny ability to talk anyone into helping her get her way.

Over 35 years ago, Ginny made Casper, Wyoming her home with her husband (div. 1994) Kevin P. McCarthy, creating a loving environment for their children to grow up in. Kevin, Brian, and Julie share many memories of pranks being played on them by their parents, developing their sick sense of humor that they carried into adulthood. Though she was raised Catholic, she found her own spiritual path, drawing strength and peace from her faith in any way which led her to God. Later, in life, she found her true home at First Baptist Church in Douglas, Wyoming, where she loved being a part of the community, developing a devoted friendship in pastor Zack Andrews. She cherished her friendship in others, such as Georgia Garland who especially became one of her best confidants.

As her health diminished, Ginny never lost her ability to light up a room. Her humor, resilience, and love for people remained unwavering. She loved playing cards and games with her family– though she loved winning even more, often bending the rules to ensure her victory. If asked, she would insist she had never lost a game in her life.

Ginny will be remembered for her humor, her fierce love of her family, and her steadfast faith- oh, and, “always following the rules,” as she would eagerly profess whenever asked. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched, the laughter she shared, and the love she gave so freely.

Her family and friends will gather Monday, March 10th, at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church 209 S. 4th St. Douglas, WY to celebrate her life and the joy she brought to those around her. A livestream will be available for those who wish to attend, but cannot in person- FBCdouglas.org livestream.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ginny’s memory by sharing a laugh, finding a great deal, or winning a game– fair and square or otherwise.
