A reception to celebrate the life of Virginia "Ginny" Simms Forbes will be held at the Petroleum Club on Saturday, November 10th at 3 p.m. Ginny passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on September 17, 2012. The first of three children, Virginia was born on October 25th, 1919 in Des Moines, Iowa to BG and Merle Brown Simms. When she was 4 years old, the family moved to Sacramento, California where she went to school through junior college. There she met her true love, Walter Scott Forbes. They were married on September 28th, 1941 in Reno, Nevada. During WWII, Ginny followed Walter as he was stationed on various air bases around the country, making a home for him during his time in the service. After the war, they relocated in Golden, Colorado while Walt attended the Colorado School of Mines. Upon graduation, the family moved to Long Beach California, where Walt began his career. In 1951, they were transferred to Casper, Wyoming and made this community their home. Virginia had many life-long friends who shared her varied interests from sewing to travel. Her life, however, was devoted to the care of her husband, daughters and grandchildren. Her philosophy was that "time spent on children was never wasted." Her gentle presence was noted in all she did from PTA as a young mother to her later years as a dedicated "soccer grandma". Always young at heart, she took up tennis at age 60. She had a passion for travel and enjoyed many trips to visit family with her daughters and grandchildren in tow, or with Walter and their wonderful friends to places around the world. She enjoyed a long and healthy life, and will be missed dearly by all those who loved her. We will all hold her memory close to our hearts. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Kerry, and her brother Frank Simms. She is survived by her daughters Shannon Forbes, Heather Forbes Huber (Kelvin); brother, Tom Simms; son-in-law, Joe Levi; grandchildren, Lincoln Briggs, Justin Frost, Trisha Frost Butcher (Jesse), Scott Levi, Micah Levi, Cass Huber (Hannah), and Jared Huber; and dearest family friends, Jana and Bob Price. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations sent to Casper College Foundation - KEY Camp, to provide scholarships to low income children to attend this residential summer camp (Knowledge Enrichment for Youth) at Casper College.
