"Papa" Virgil Lyle Brown was born in Wallace, NE on October 20, 1930 to Floyd Robert and Bessie Ellen (Miller) Brown. He was the 4th of five children and was very proud of his 10/20/30 birthday. He died of leukemia on March 7, 2014 in Casper. He grew up in Scottsbluff and Gering, NE. As a teenager, he held the school record for high jump and graduated from Gering High School in 1949. After graduation he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He served as a sergeant during the Korean War and later served with the Army National Guard. Nebraska Governor Morrison bestowed upon him the title of Honorary Admiral of the Nebraska Navy. On June 6, 1953 he married the love of his life, Lois Lucille Meter. They celebrated 60 years of marriage last June. They began raising their family in Gering, NE where Papa served with the Gering Volunteer Fire Department and worked as a mailman for several years before joining the US Bureau of Reclamation (USBR). In 1964 they moved with the USBR to Seminoe Dam, Wyoming to work as a power plant operator. Over the years, Papa lived and worked at Glendo Dam, WY, Flaming Gorge Dam in UT, Alcova Dam in Wyoming and Davis Dam in Bullhead City, AZ, where he retired in 1990. After retirement, they returned to Casper, WY where they remained until his passing. Papa had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke and tease. He also loved hunting, fishing, rock hunting, camping, good food, gardening and his grandchildren. Papa was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved siblings, Charles, AnnieLee, Chet and Betty Jo. He is survived by his children; Robert O. Brown of Riverton, WY, Lori Brown Wirth (Vince Hytrek- Papa's best friend), Tom (Teresa) Brown and Donald Larsen, all of Casper. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren Seth(Sarah) Eslami , and Danny of Houston, TX, Lahna Brown (Lewie Uptmore) and Nathan, Aaron (Roxanna) Canipe, Chloe and Violet all of Cincinnati, OH, Philip (Ashley) Canipe and Bridgett of Ft. Collins, CO and Kyle Wirth, a Junior at the University of Wyoming. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much. Memorial services will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Oregon Trail Veteran's Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Natrona County United Veterans Council and The Wyoming Army National Guard. Please bring Cherished memories of Papa to share.
