Vernon Lee "Renegade" King, 68, of Gillette passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, from stroke related complications at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper. He was born July 29, 1947, to Vernon James King and Marjorie Louise Beamer King in Monte Vista, Colorado. He graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1965, and was employed by M&G Drilling. Lee and Carolyn Ann Neufeld were married in July of 1966. They had two children, Jonathan David and Deanna Lee. He enlisted in the United States Army in October 1966, and served two tours in Vietnam, March 1968, and December 1970. He received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal;Overseas Service Bars 4th Award; Bronze Star Medal; Good Conduct Medal 5th Award;Sharpshooter Badge with .45 Caliber Pistol Bar; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm;Sharpshooter Badge with M-16 Rifle Bar; Expert Badge with M-14 Rifle Bar; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; and Army Commendation Medal. Lee and Carolyn divorced and he was remarried to Irene Foran. They had one son, Patrick. Lee?s last years in the Army were spent in Germany. He is survived by his son, Jonathan David King of Fountain, Colorado; daughter, Deanna Scalzo of Gillette; and son, Patrick King of Daleville, Alabama; and many grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jacque (Ronnie) Spencer of Monte Vista, Colorado; nephew, Joshua (Misty) Spencer of Grand Junction, Colorado; uncle Bill King of Weatherford, Texas and cousin, Sue Lyn (Rick) Miles of Saguache, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents; aunts, Hazel Metz and Doris Brubacher; uncles, Clarence Metz Jr., Pont Freel, Roy Brubacher; and granddaughter, Madison Scalzo. Graveside services with full military honors will take place at 3 pm. Friday Oct. 2, 2015, at Colorado State Veterans Cemetery 3749 Sherman Avenue Monte Vista CO.
