Vera Rainey

Vera Bondurant Rainey, 94, of Casper passed away June 18 at Garden Square Living Facility in Casper. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 24, at Bustard's Funeral Home. Vera was born on September 16, 1920, to Perle O. and Lucille (Williams) Bondurant, in Parkerton, WY. She attended grade school in Parkerton and Glenrock; and graduated from Glenrock-Parkerton High School, as Valedictorian of the class of 1937. Vera was an accomplished pianist and was offered a music scholarship to the University of Wyoming, but was unable to accept. She married Isaac W. (lke) Rainey on May 29, 1937 in Glenrock, and together they raised four sons and a daughter. Vera was a faithful church member, Sunday School teacher, and pianist. She also worked for the Glenrock Independent Newspaper and Printing Office for eight years. She was the only female linotype operator in Wyoming during that time. With the closure of the Conoco Oil Refinery in Glenrock in February of 1956, the Rainey family transferred to Louisiana. Vera was a volunteer in the Lake Charles area with the Calcasieu Parish Health Service and the American Red Cross as a Gray Lady. She was employed by Dr. John K. Griffith, Jr., as secretary and bookkeeper for 24 years. During her retirement, she worked in retail for several years. Interested in aviation, Vera became a licensed and instrument certified pilot. She was a recreational pilot for several years. Vera returned to Glenrock in 2003 to be nearer to her family. She moved to Casper in 2008 and lived there until her death. Preceding Vera in death were her parents, her husband, one brother, two sisters, a grandson, a niece, and a nephew. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Rainey, Casper; her sons, Dennis (Mary-Lou), Boise, 1D, Ronald (Debra), San Jose, CA, Gary, Casper, and John (Ewa), Baton Rouge, LA; one brother, Robert (Lucille) Bondurant, Casper; and one sister, June (William) Lythgoe, Glenrock; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
