Susan Lofgren

November 21, 1936 — May 30, 2014

Susan M. Lofgren was involved in a fatal car accident on Friday, May 30, 2014, while en route to Gillette. Susan was born in Manhattan, NY on November 21, 1936 to Dr. George and Mary Mueller, the first of two daughters. They lived in New Jersey, Florida, and California. She played the Mellophone and loved to ride her horse. After graduating in 1955 from University High School in Los Angeles, Susan attended the University of Wyoming. As a Kappa Delta, she met the love of her life, Lawrence Lofgren, a Sigma Nu. The couple was married on August 20, 1956 at the Westwood Methodist Church in Los Angeles, CA. The couple moved to Sheridan for one year. They moved to Casper, WY where Larry had accepted a teaching position at Casper College as the Life Science instructor. Susan and Larry had three daughters; Katherine, Ingrid, and Cynthia. The family enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping, fine arts, and travel. Sue volunteered at the YMCA. When the girls were older, Susan worked at Casper Day Care Center. She received a Registered Nursing degree at Casper College. Sue worked at Wyoming Medical Center and then Wyoming Home Health. Due to work related injuries, her body forced her into an early retirement. Sue and Larry traveled extensively (visiting China, Peru, Greece, South Africa, and Ireland). In 2012, after 55 years of marriage, Sue lost her dearly loved spouse to cancer. She missed him deeply, yet she continued to fish, camp, and travel. Her last trip abroad was to: Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria, and Poland. After two knee replacements, Susan had planned to resume camping and fishing. This fall she was scheduled to take a trip to Bhutan and India. When she wasn't traveling, Sue sang with the OSL choir, took classes at Casper College, attended Casper Symphonies, did activities at the Senior Center, and enjoyed "Music in the Park". Susan was preceded in death by her husband, parents; and sister, Gretchen. Susan is survived by her three daughters: Kitt (Bill) Barger of Worland, Ingrid (Steve) Smith of Gillette, and Cynthia (Ward) Frank of California, MD; three grandchildren, Thomas and Kevin Barger and Alyssa Frank; her nieces and nephews, Sara, Tammy, Wesley, and Randy Henderson. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Casper with Pastor Bob McNamara Officiating. Susan's cremains will be placed in the Sheridan Cemetery beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Our Savior's Lutheran Elevator Fund or Central Wyoming Senior Center. Condolences for the family may be left at bustardsfuneralhome.com.
