Susan Guthrie

August 30, 1949 — October 22, 2012

Susan was born in Casper, WY on August 30, 1949. She was the first child born to H. Donald Maher and Helen Seilbach Maher. She died October 22, 2012 at Central Wyoming Hospice, following a long fight with cancer. Susan attended Casper schools, graduating in 1967 from NCHS. She graduated from WNMU in 1979 and from the UW College of Law in 1982. She worked for Harry Leimbeck immediately after taking the bar exam until he was appointed to the District Court bench. She then opened her own practice, which was closed in 2003 due to illness. Susan married AI McCarty in 1968, in Casper. To this union three children were born: Samantha and the twins Doug and Tabitha. She found a spiritual home at 1st Christian Church (DOC). Her faith in God carried her through a number of health crises that began in 1996. Her joy and faith never waned and she fought the good fight. Susan is survived by her family: Her mother, brother and his wife, Paul and Sue Maher and their children and grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren: Samantha (Cody) and their children; Rebekah, Clayton, Ian, Elisabeth, Lydia, Benjamin, Gideon, and Timothy, all of Casper. Doug (Crystle) and their children; Cora and Daniel of Keamey, NE. Tabitha (Eric) and her children; Chad of New Jersey, Evan and Jadyn of Casper. She is also survived by four aunts, one uncle, and several cousins and their families. Susan was preceded in death by her father Don Maher. Susan requested that any memorial be made to the Allen H. Stewart Lion's Camp and/or the NAMI WY In Our Own Voice program. Memorial services will be held on at 4:00 PM, Friday, November 2, 2012, at First Christian Church (DOC), with private family burial to follow at a later time. Cremation has taken place.
