After a bleak diagnosis with cancer, Sue lived defiantly for 4 1/2 months, skiing, traveling, making ceramics and living fully in the company of loved ones. Sue passed peacefully at home on March 2, 2019 surrounded by family. Sue was born June 25, 1951 to Byron Miller and Lois Ulrich Miller in Omaha, NE. She lived a life loving the outdoors. Whether gardening, hiking, camping, mountain biking, cross country skiing, swimming, going to movies or just relaxing, Sue could be found with family or friends. Sue earned a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Nebraska and later a master degree in education from the University of Wyoming. Early childhood education was her passion through 40 years of teaching with the most recent years at Park Elementary School in Casper. One cohort described her as "an advocate for children like no one else I know." Sue married Gary Berchenbriter in 1982 in Lincoln, NE. The center of their loving partnership is their two children, Bryce and Jenny. You can see her curiosity in learning and love of the outdoors reflected in both of her adult children. Sue was active in Master Gardeners, Casper Women's Hiking Group, Reach for the Stars and a member of the Casper College Early Childhood Education Board. Sue co-organized a backyard concert series in Casper. Sue is survived by her husband, Gary, son Bryce, daughter Jenny and sister, Linda (Miller) Chernault. She was preceded in death by her parents Lois and Byron Miller. No service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers Sue requested donations be made to Heifer International or Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.
