Steven Dobos

April 10, 1956 — January 6, 2018

Steven Mark Dobos was born April 10, 1956 in Gary, Indiana to Alvin and Charlene Dobos. Steve spent his childhood in Lansing, Illinois with his siblings, Sue, Patti, and Jim. The family were faithful members of First Baptist Church of Lansing where Steve's dad was a deacon, sang in the choir and his mom served a period as church secretary. Steve remembered being in church "every time the doors were opened." Family vacations were highlights of Steve's childhood memories, packed into a car with all of his siblings, and camping at KOA sites. When Steve was a young child, the family visited the West, and Steve determined from that day forward that he would one day live in Wyoming. After high school graduation, Steve attended junior college at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, where he played defensive back on the college football team. Steve later transferred to the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology in 1980. After graduation, Steve moved to Casper, Wyoming, where he has remained ever since. Steve was employed by Energy Laboratories in 1986. Determined, dedicated and loyal, Steve worked 31 years at Energy Labs where he served in multiple capacities, most recently as a Radiation Safety Officer. Steve was committed to his work and his work family. Steve was a great listener, and a practical joker, and enjoyed many laughs with his colleagues. Steve was honored to lend his expertise to many community agencies, holding leadership positions with the Natrona County Regional Water System Joint Powers Board, the Casper Utilities Advisory Board and the Pioneer Water and Sewer District. Steve and his former wife LeeAnne (Bayne) were the proud parents of twin sons, Justin Reed and Colton Michael who were born in 1997. They enjoyed true Wyoming living, boarding horses, mending fences, and raising their sons on a small ranch outside of Casper. Steve was a devoted father who valued every opportunity he had to invest in his sons. Just as his own father, Steve made time to travel with his boys, hike, hunt, and read every sign they encountered on their adventures. In 2013, Steve married his current wife, Joanna (Browning), and became stepdad to six more boys: Tucker Hamilton, Tyler Hamilton, Eli Hamilton, Ethan Hamilton, Logan Hamilton, and Jonah Hamilton. Many would be daunted by this task, but true to his nature, Steve devotedly nurtured, mentored, and loved them as his own. He made every effort to pour himself into their interests and activities, rooting for them at countless football, baseball, and basketball games, and learning to cheer for the Kentucky Wildcats. While cancer has cut short their time together on earth, Steve and Joanna were privileged to enjoy their years together, traveling and hiking at every opportunity and walking countless miles on the Platte River Parkway. Even in the face of illness, they enjoyed taking time to laugh and to treasure one another and to thank God in all circumstances. Steve and his family worshipped many years at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Casper, where he enjoyed opportunities to serve his church family. Steve participated in mission trips to Angola Prison in Louisiana, and to Zambia, Africa. He regularly served dinner at Central Wyoming Rescue Mission again showing his compassion for people in his beloved community. Steve is survived by his wife, Joanna; sons, Justin Dobos and Colton Dobos of Casper, Wyoming; six stepsons, Tucker, Tyler, Eli, Ethan, Logan and Jonah Hamilton of Casper; mother, Charlene Dobos of Lansing, Illinois; brother, sister, Sue (Jay) Stratman of Gilbert, Arizona; brother, Jim Dobos of Lansing, Illinois; four nieces and two nephews, multiple great nieces and nephews and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Dobos; and sister, Patricia Dobos Zeilstra. Memorial Services will be directed by Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10 from 4:30-7 at Bustard's Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 12 at 10 am at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church. "Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant." Matthew 20-26
