Stephen Jerome Cochran was born on March 11th, 1945 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Bernadine and Ralph Sindelar. While growing up in Bridgeport on the family farm, Steve became well known for his academic aptitude as well as his ability to play football (which he attributed to having to keep up with his brothers). Steve's parents divorced while he was young and his mother married Fred Cochran, who raised Steve as his own. Steve graduated from Bridgeport High School as Salutatorian and was voted Mr. Bulldog by his classmates. Steve went on to study history at Chadron College, working alternating semesters so he could afford tuition. His eldest brother, John inspired him to begin a career in the oil industry. While working with John in Belize, he met the love of his life, Nydia. After dating for 3 months, Steve proposed, and they were married 3 months later on September 2nd, 1973. On May 24th 1975, Steve and Nydia welcomed their first child, James, and later moved to Casper, Wyoming, which he would call home the rest of his days. Almost three years later on March 7th, 1978, a second child, Patrick, was born. Steve continued his career in the oilfield and became a very highly regarded directional driller and regional director. He enjoyed traveling throughout US and the world drilling for a variety of international energy companies. Upon his retirement, he found joy in his many mechanical projects, spending time with his wife, sons, and granddaughters and rooting for the Cornhuskers and Broncos. Steve passed away on January 15th, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones. He was a man of incredible physical constitution and strength, quick wit, intellect and mechanical ability. He found joy in arguing politics, discussing automobiles, fishing, and doting over his granddaughters. He lead by example and exemplified a powerful sense of duty to his family. Steve is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nydia, his sons James (Candice) and Patrick, two granddaughters Marissa and Madison, 4 brothers Sam, Dan, Joe, and Jim, and 1 sister Delores. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers John and George. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 21, 2013 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church by Fr.
