Stanley McInroy

June 12, 1931 — February 12, 2017

Stanley Herbert McInroy died on February 12, 2017 at age 85 after a prolonged heart and lung disease. He was born near Middlebury Center, PA on June 12, 1931. From an early age he enjoyed hunting, even going after a bear using a homemade bow when he was less than 10 (until his mother stopped him). He and his mother liked to go fishing together a lot. They would smoke to drive off mosquitos. He worked very hard at Knudsen's milk plant starting at age 14, but was fired anyway, probably because he skipped Mona Nicolson's only speaking part in the senior class play. It turned out to be a blessing, as cheapskate Knudsen was paying him only 45 cents per hour, while his next job paid $1/hr. He graduated a year early as Senior Class President. "I lied that I was 18 (really age 17) to get a job on road construction on the road to Ansonia. They really liked me because I was working my way through college. I hitch-hiked to work, sometimes arriving a little late." He then worked nights at Corning Glass Works to pay his way through college, earning bachelors degrees from Mansfield State Teacher's College and Penn State University. The Penn State Petroleum Engineering degree landed him a career at Marathon Oil Company, where he spent over 20 years on stints in Sidney NB, Grass Creek, Cody, Casper, and Bakersfield, CA. He finally settled in Casper with McIlnay & Associates, where he spent the remainder of his career. While living in Grass Creek, he went to Hudson for the best steaks and met Opal Sprout. He fell in love with Opal, a Powell school teacher on Easter vacation whom he married in 1959. Two months later, he got a near world record elk (340 Boone and Crockett points, 6 antler points); their marriage started with a bang. He remained an avid hunter and fisherman until his health forced him to stop at age 80. He loved dogs, taking them on daily 4 mile hikes year round even after his quintuple bypass dictated the use of a continuous oxygen feed carried in his backpack. He traveled the world, seeing Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, South America, Mexico, and Africa. He amazed everyone with his perseverance and grit. In recent years, this meant that he fought hard to stay healthy as long as he could, performing an endless routine of painful and boring prescribed exercises. He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Opal; son, John & his wife, Nancy Peck; daughter, Tricia McInroy and her spouse, Jen; daughter, Brenda Trippel and spouse, Tim; and grandchildren, Talitha Trippel, Narisse Trippel, Ann McInroy and Liam McInroy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18th, 10a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Casper. Reverend Mary Schmidt and Reverend Tim Trippel will officiate. Memorials in his name can be made to the Casper Humane Society.
