Burial for Shirley Alene Stewart will be at 11 a.m. Thursday Sept. 9th at the Moorcroft Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Moorcroft with Pastor Donavon Voigt officiating. Shirley Alene Stewart of Rozet died Sept. 3, 2010 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper of complications from a hip fracture. She was born July 26, 1922, in Kansas City, MO to Merle M. (Harless) and Joseph V Tunstall. She graduated from Westport High School, Kansas City, MO. After attending secretarial school she became the executive secretary to H.D. Lee (Lee Jeans) a clothing manufacturer for the military during WWII. She came to Wyoming to visit her mother and step-father John Nefsy at their ranch on Inyan Kara Creek, near Sundance. There she met Rex Stewart, who did trick horseback rides to impress her. He took her prairie dog hunting, betting pennies on the most skilled shooter. She took all his pennies. She always figured he married her to get his pennies back and her sugar rations. They were married Dec. 15, 1945 in Hardin, MT and moved to the Stewart ranch near Rozet. She loved playing volleyball, tennis, billiards, ping pong, bowling, bridge, picture puzzles and board games. She was a great cook, accomplished seamstress, an expert in crocheting, knitting, and needlework. She loved to paint in oil and watercolor. She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Moorcroft. She was the Wyoming State Grand Past Chief of the Pythian Sisters She served as a 4-H leader in Campbell County for 20 years. Shirley is survived by her two daughters Sandra (Wayne) Holyoak of Blairstown, NJ, and Cynthia Stewart (Kate Schmitz) of Rozet, WY. Her two grandchildren Denise and David (Clorimar) Holyoak. Three great-grandchildren, David Brighton, Marly and Colin Holyoak. She was preceded in death by her father, step-brother, mother, step-father, infant daughter Pamela, husband, and great-grandchild, Emma.
