Shirley Schwartzkopf

June 5, 1930 — August 6, 2016

Shirley June Schwartzkopf passed away surrounded by her family and their love on August 6, 2016 at Shepherd of The Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Correll, Minnesota to Ellie Swenson-Maynard and Ralph Maynard. She spent the first 25 years of her life in Correll where she graduated from high school and went on to earn her Teaching degree from Cloud Teaching College. After college, on July 11, 1955, Shirley married the only man she ever loved; Jack Schwartzkopf. Together she and Jack raised a family that she was exceptionally proud of. Her life was never short on love or adventure. Shirley was a sweet, kindhearted lady by nature which lent well to her career in teaching as well as her life as a mother. She may have been best described as the strong-silent type. She truly carried the weight of the world on her shoulders with a smile on her face. Shirley was a woman of many, widely varied interests, hobbies, and talents, including, bowling, sewing, crafts, hunting, fishing and traveling. She had the opportunity to travel all over the world, yet was never able to find a person that she couldn't out fish. She was a member of Casper Water Ski Club, Casper College Boosters, and the Elks Club. Shirley will be fondly remembered by her Husband, Jack Schwartzkopf; children, Gary (Tracy) Schwartzkopf, Jeri (Mike) Galovich, Shari (Chris) O'Brien, and Mike (Donna) Schwartzkopf; grandchildren, Scott, Jackie, Jacob, Jace, Ty, Tad, and Heather; 5 great-granddaughters, Serenity, Rylee, Calyn, Nathalie, Joselyn; 1 great-grandson, Aiden, and one more blessing due in October; her sisters, Doris, Phyllis, Arlene, and Audrey. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Faye; and several other loved ones. Memorial services will be held at 1:00PM, on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Bustard's Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery. Shirley received extraordinary care and love at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing home. As a family would like send all of the staff a very special thank you and a thousand hugs. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's and Dementia Association, Wyoming Chapter, 2232 Dell Range Blvd, Suite 220, Cheyenne, WY 82009.
