Shirley Hudson

Longtime Casper resident, Shirley Hudson, passed away on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015, at the age of 88, surrounded by her family. Shirley was born July 8, 1926, in Lander, Wyoming, to Si and Elsie (Peterson) Clark. She graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School in 1945 and attended her freshman year of college at the University of Wyoming. Shirley married Lander-native, Fred Hudson, on April 21, 1945, in San Diego, California. Fred and Shirley moved to Casper in 1955 where Shirley worked as a Deputy Assessor for the Natrona County Assessor's office until 1962. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for the Law Firm of Brown, Drew. In 1975 she and Fred established their business, Fred Hudson Studios, in which they conducted landscape painting classes. She and Fred traveled the western United States presenting his unique painting instruction program, which featured Fred's pre-mixed paints and video instruction. This program was later aired on Wyoming Public Television. Later in life Shirley worked as the business manager for First Christian Church. She retired in 2007 at the age of 80. Shirley was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and First Christian Church where she became one of the first female Elders. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, and reading. She is survived by her children Monica and Calvin Decker, Shannon and Steve Lunsford, grandchildren Rae and Greg Biggs, Ty and Mary Lunsford, Cassie and Derek Amadio, Lindsay and Keith Davis, and great-grandchildren John and Alexander Biggs, Isabella Knutson, Eli and Brody Lunsford, Emily Amadio, and Elizabeth Davis. She is also survived by her First Christian Church family. Shirley requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to First Christian Church. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 9, 2015 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Cynthia McBride officiating.. Viewing will be from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Bustard's Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery.
