Shirley Garner

Shirley White Garner died April 5th, 2014 at Shepard of the Valley Care Center in Casper, she was 86 years old. Shirley was born to William Lee and Nena L. White in Casper on November 12th, 1927. She attended Casper schools and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1945. After graduation, she worked for American Pipe and Supply until her marriage to Charles L. (Chuck) Garner in 1947. She and Chuck had four children together. After the birth of her children she returned to work in 1960 for Cotter Battery and Electric and later became the Secretary Treasurer of Brooks Water and Sewer until she and Chuck moved to Riverton in 1975. In Riverton she worked for Wyoming State Job Service and later managed the Riverton, Jackson and Lander branches of the State Unemployment Offices where she remained until her retirement in 1994. She moved back to Casper in 2005 after the death of her husband, Chuck. Shirley was an avid reader, gardener and quilter. She loved being outdoors and spending time with her pets. She was preceded in death by her son, Calvin, who died in infancy, and her husband. She is survived by her children Russell Garner, Stephen Garner and Cynthia Grieve, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any remembrance donations in Shirley's name be made to the Humane Society of Casper or the American Cancer Society.
