Shelly Ware

July 18, 1942 — February 22, 2018

Shelly Ray Ware, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 22, 2018 in West Jordan, Utah. He and his twin sister Shirley were born on July 18, 1942 in Camden-on-Gauley, WV to Clifford M. and Minnie Thelma "Ted" Ware. Shelly, along with his siblings and parents, lived on the family farm and spent a lot of time tending to the crops and animals. He attended Cowen High School and graduated in 1960. Upon graduation, he followed in the tradition of his older brothers and left West Virginia to begin his adventure out West starting with living with his eldest brother Don "D.C." Ware and his family in Ray, North Dakota. While in Ray, he met his future bride, Mary "Toots" Salveson and was married June 26, 1964 at Ray Lutheran Church. After several job related moves within the oilfield, they made their permanent home in Casper in 1980. Together, they raised three children; Michael, Michelle and Jeremy, and opened their home to many other friends and family throughout the years. Shelly was a man of many talents. He had the opportunity to go into business for himself in 1992 when he and Mary started Oilfield Products of Wyoming. In 1996, they had the opportunity to purchase a small oilfield near Midwest, WY and started Warehouse Industries. He was a handy mechanic who worked on family vehicles and restored Camaros with his son, Michael. He was forever working his way down a "honey do" list from Mary including an endless wish list of building projects. He built bookshelves, wooden decks, picture frames, a rocking horse, and also renovated their last home in Casper to Mary's specifications. Shelly had many interests and hobbies. He mentored youth throughout his life, beginning as an Explorer Scout leader even before he was a father. His mentoring went on to include being a Boy Scout leader as well as being a Sunday School teacher / Youth Group leader for Junior High and Senior High Youth in the churches he attended. He also gave many young people their first jobs as employees for Warehouse Industries. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed many hunting trips with his brothers and sons. He also spent many content weekends in the Big Horn Mountains camping, backpacking, and fishing with his family. He and Mary were avid travelers and trekked across the U.S. many times to visit family and friends and to see the sights in between. They were smitten with Hawaii after their 15th wedding anniversary trip to the islands. They traveled to England to visit their daughter in 2009 and managed to fit in excursions to Wales and Norway on the same trip. In 2016, Shelly sold Warehouse Industries, which he had run for ~20 years, retired, and moved to Utah. He continued to meet new friends along the way in this new life chapter, even though he still faced several health issues. Shelly lost Mary to cancer in 2010 after being her devoted husband for 45 years. He faced tragedy again in 2011 when he lost his youngest son, Jeremy, in a motorcycle accident. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and 3 sisters. He is survived by his son Michael (Katherine) of Magna, UT, and daughter Michelle (Robert) of Show Low, AZ. He is also survived by his brothers James (Diane) of North Branch, MN and Claude (Doris) of Douglas, WY; 8 grandchildren - Cody, Kimberly, Tyler, Lexi, Josh, Jack, Emma and Ezra - and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at Bustard's Funeral Home on Friday, March 2nd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. His funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 3rd at Bustard's with a graveside service immediately following at Highland Cemetery with a reception following internment at Bustard's Reception Center.
