Scott Low, 50, died on June 19, 2019, after succumbing to injuries from an accident sustained days earlier. Scott was born December 21, 1968, to Janet Sue (Toney) and Gregory Lee Low in Torrance, California. The family moved to Lancaster, California when Scott was a toddler, and he remained in the Antelope Valley until he was 20 years old. He graduated from Paraclete High School in 1987 and obtained an Associate of Science degree from Antelope Valley Community College in 1989. Scott never considered a career in fire service until the California Conservation Corps assigned him to a fire camp outside Paradise, California. He spent a year and a half in the CCC fighting wildland fires and working on conservation projects, then obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at California State University, Chico and went to work for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. While working at stations throughout Butte County, Scott learned the skills of what became his favorite aspect of firefighting: wildland-urban interface. Scott moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1994 and joined the Casper Fire Department in 1997. He was an EMT-Intermediate and a Hazmat Tech. He attained the rank of captain and was assigned to C Platoon at Station 6 at the time of his death. At the department, he focused on safety, was a longtime member of the CFD safety committee, and volunteered for the last decade with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Everyone Goes Home program. Scott traveled the state advocating for firefighter safety and was the EGH Region 8 representative. Scott met and began dating Anne Bowline his senior year in high school at Paraclete, when she was "the new girl" in her class. They married six years later. He loved exploring the mountain roads of Wyoming, camping, and fly fishing with Anne and their dogs. He fell in love with Wyoming as a kid, when family members from California and Michigan began meeting on the Green River near Pinedale for biannual family reunion camping trips, a tradition that continues after nearly 60 years. Scott is survived by his wife, Anne; brother, Brad (Karista) of Cody; aunts and uncles Liz and Danny Low of Lancaster, California and Sheila and Doug Wall of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; grandmother, Juanita Low of Lancaster, California; and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, maternal grandparents, and paternal grandfather. He also lost three members of the fire service during his time on the job: CFD Captains Jeff Atkinson and Matt Trott, and Cal Fire Captain Bruce Yuhasz, his mentor. Scott would be grateful to his brothers and sister on the Casper Fire Department for how well they are taking care of Anne and looking after the rest of his family. He will be missed by more people than he ever realized. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, projecthealingwaters.org.
