In loving memory of Sarah Ann Applegate, who passed away July 3, 2019 and who will be greatly missed. Sarah was born August 27, 1930 in Lake City, Florida as the second of two children. She attended schooling primarily in Live Oak and Branford, Florida before graduating high school in Norman Park, Georgia. Sarah attended a year of college and the Massey Business School before finding work in Jacksonville, FL. It was here she met her future husband, Sidney Dean Applegate, who was in the Navy and stationed at Jacksonville Naval Air Station. Sarah and Sid met at the USO, dancing together in 1951, and would later marry on April 4, 1952. Sid finished his stint in the service in 1955 and in 1956 the couple moved to Sid's hometown in Peru, Nebraska where he finished an education degree. By fall of 1958 the couple was in Glenrock, Wyoming where, with the exception of a single year, they would work and raise their family. Sarah was primarily a homemaker but did work in 1972 for a year at Data Processing in Casper to help pay for a family trip to Disney World. She would later work for 17 years as a teacher's aid at the Glenrock Grade School where Sid served as Principal. She was a longtime member of the Glenrock Community Baptist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, and several bridge groups. Sarah loved gardening, flowers, playing cards and cooking. She treasured southern food, and her family was exposed to a variety of southern dishes such as black-eyed peas, mustard greens and grits long before they became readily available in this area. She was family famous for a wide variety of baked pies and Jell-O desserts. She was a strong supporter of her grandkids, traveling often to Chicago to attend events for her grandchildren there. And even when wheel-chair bound and in decline, attended her granddaughter's regional championship tennis match in Casper a few years ago. Sid and Sarah spent a number of retirement years visiting Lake Havasu, Arizona in the winters where they met a new group of friends. The couple eventually celebrated 62 years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sid, and sister, Evelyn. Sarah is survived by her son Dean (Shelly) of Casper, WY; daughter, Nancy (Tom) of Parker, CO and their children, Ryan, Katie, and Kellie; and son David (Diana) of Casper and their children, Quinn, Ethan, and Emily. A memorial service will be held at the Community Baptist Church in Glenrock at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 19, 2019. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
