Sandra Greene

August 19, 1941 — February 19, 2015

Long-time resident of Casper, Wyoming, Sandra Mae Greene passed away in her home on February 19, 2015. She was seventy-three years old. Sandra was born in the farming community of Mount Vernon, South Dakota, August 19, 1941, the seventh child of Hoyt and Mae Greene. After graduating with a teaching degree specializing in deaf education from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, she began her career as an instructor at the Wyoming School for the Deaf in Casper where she continued to encourage and challenge students until her retirement. Sandra had a teacher's heart. Having no children of her own, young people, especially her nieces and nephews, were the characters of stories that she would relate during Chat n' Chew, one of the many educational and community clubs/associations to which she belonged (Kelly Walsh Retired Teacher's Association, W.E.A. Teacher's Association, A.A.U.W. Book Club, Alpha Beta Kappa Honorary Sorority for Educators, and Habitat for Humanity). To Sandra, details were everything. One could never ask her a question and escape with a generic answer. The lives of her family and friends dominated her calendar. Despite diabetes and various health struggles, she would attend every holiday gathering and event, not just Christmas and weddings, but rock-climbing tournaments, wagon trains, and pretty much anything else. She was an avid reader as well as gardener, traveler, photographer, and food sampler. She made the best of lasagnas! Sandra is missed terribly and is survived by her sister, Dorothy Maulde of Mitchell, South Dakota, and her brother, Lad Greene (Marilyn), of Buffalo, Wyoming, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and many devoted, life-long friends. A memorial service commemorating Sandra's life will be held at First Methodist Church of Casper, Wyoming, on March 7, 2015, at Ten o'clock AM. Family condolences may be sent to 2014 Lynwood Place, Casper, Wyoming 82604 or Bustard's Funeral Home at http://www.bustardsfuneralhome.com. Donations may also be made to the Diabetes Society in Sandra's memory.
