Samuel McAtee died peacefully surrounded by family Thursday Dec 12, 2019 at the Wyoming Medical Center hospital. He was 89 years old.
Sam was born in Paducah, Kentucky on Oct., 11 1930 to Paul and Katherine McAtee. Sam was 2nd oldest of 6 children. He and his family moved and settled in Casper in 1932.
Samuel grew up in Casper attending the local elementary and Natrona High Schools. Sam left Casper when he enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and returned in 1955. After returning from the service, he joined the Casper Fire Department. Sam left Casper in 1956 to attend Heald Engineering College in San Francisco where he acquired a B.S in Electronic Engineering. Soon after enrolling in college, he married Patsy Williamson of Casper Wy., and the two lived in San Francisco while Sam finished his degree.
After graduation, Sam was offered a position with Hughes Aircraft in Fullerton, Ca. where he worked as an engineer and manager for 25 years. He and Patsy lived in LaMirada where they raised their surviving children, Shawn McAtee, Anaheim Hills, Ca., and Amy Cooke, San Marcos, Ca.
Sam retired in 1989, and lived in Orange County and Oceanside. During his lifetime, Sam enjoyed riding and building motorcycles. One could always find Sam in his garage tinkering on a motorcycle or woodworking projects. Sam was the guy you called when you needed help with just about anything.
In 2000, Sam returned to Casper where he kept busy with motorcycle restoration and other various projects and spending time with close family and friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his 1st wife Patsy McAtee, Father Paul McAtee, Mother Katherine McAtee, and brothers Thomas and Daniel McAtee. He is survived by his 2nd wife Joan Seward, son Shawn McAtee, daughter Amy Cooke, his sister Alexandra McAtee, brothers James and David McAtee, and five grandchildren - Shelby and Colton McAtee and Samuel, Levi, and Rachael Cooke.
