Ruth Hutsell

October 4, 1928 — November 21, 2017

Ruth O'Dean Hutsell, 89, longtime resident of Mills, went to be with her Savior Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Life Care Center of Casper. Born Oct. 4, 1928, in a house on McKinley Street in Casper, Ruth was the daughter of Charles Lowery and Laura (Hendryx) Lowery, but was raised by her Grandma Lowery at 745 Jefferson. She was a 1947 graduate of Natrona County High School. Ruth and Floyd Hutsell met while in grade school in north Casper. They dated in their teen years and were married Sept. 20, 1947, at the Mullen Club by Father Grannin. They honeymooned in Esterbrook and afterward rented their Grandma Lowery's basement. The couple then lived on 15th Street in Casper until 1961, when they were able to purchase a home in Mills, where the couple resided until Floyd's passing in 2012. Along with Floyd, Ruth helped run the family grocery store, Hutsell's Pay-N-Save, which had relocated to the Millview Shopping Center in Mills in the 1960s. The couple retired from the business in 1981. Ruth loved spending time in the Big Horn and Teton mountains. They maintained a summer home at Alcova Reservoir for many years, and wintered often in Arizona. Ruth also provided many years of loving health care for her husband. Ruth and Floyd were the proud parents of four children: Janet; Kathy; Floyd, Jr. (Butch); and Billy. In addition to her many years of dedication to the family business, Ruth was a talented artist who loved cooking for her friends and family, entertaining, birdwatching, fishing, hunting and dancing. She also enjoyed participating in monthly family dinners with her cousins Irvin Clark, Doris Carpenter, Goldie Phillips, Jackie Tillman and Glenn Clark, as well as many other relatives. After her health began to deteriorate, her family happily joined her wherever she was for fun and fellowship. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sons, Floyd Hutsell, Jr., and William Hutsell, as well as her brother, Robert Dunn. She is survived by her daughters, Janet (Kenny) Barrett, of Mills, and Kathy (Bob) Waddell, of Casper; nine grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Faith Bible Chapel, 504 N. Forest Dr., in Casper. Memorials may be sent to Wyoming CARES, P.O. Box 2575, Casper, WY 82602.
