A celebration of life for Ruby June Halsey, 85, of Douglas, Wyoming will be held September 16, 2017, at 1:00 pm, at Crossroads Baptist Church in Douglas. She died peacefully at home with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She was born June 02, 1932 in Abilene, Kansas to William and Elsie Lauer. She was the last of 9 children. She was raised in Boulder Colorado and in March of 1949 she met the love of her life Dale Halsey. After a whirlwind romance of 3 months they were married July 24, 1949. They moved to Sterling where they lived on and off the family farm until 1958, while raising a family of then 4 children, then moved to Casper, Wyoming. Two years later they moved to Glenrock, added one more son to their family, and stayed there until retirement in 1991. Ruby worked at the B&C Café as a waitress for a time, then after their youngest was in school, she took a position at the school as a secretary. She later worked as a typesetter for Nerwin Reed at the Glenrock Independent, which she loved. She enjoyed bowling, camping, crocheting, and spending time with family, friends and she adored her grandchildren. After retirement, they spent their winters as snowbirds going to Yuma Arizona and returned to Wyoming when the threat of snow was gone!! They spent several years traveling back and forth until Dales passing. Ruby moved back to Wyoming, where she lived in Casper for a time and then moved back to Glenrock. She purchased a dog, JoJo, that was her companion to the end. Ruby was in the auxillary and enjoyed packaging dozens and dozens of cookies for the troops every year. She would report to her children how many cookies they had shipped. Ruby was very proud of the fact her oldest son served his country and has had 1 grandson that served in the Marines, and 2 grandsons that are still currently serving in the Army and the Air Force Reserve. She enjoyed taking the occasional bus trip to Riverton for her "one-armed bandit" fix. While she never struck it big she enjoyed every minute of it. One of the things on her bucket list was to go to Hawaii, and she was able to cross that off when she got to travel there to see her grandson (Josh) as he was stationed there. She will also be missed by the many good friends that she has made over the years. She is survived by her sons Larry (Martha) Halsey of Glenrock, Deanna (Chuck) Land of Douglas, Rick (Jean) Halsey of Ness City, Kansas and Billy Halsey of Dallas Texas. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by one grandson Ryan Willson, daughter Michelle Willson, husband Dale Halsey, and all of her siblings and parents. .
