Rosalie Carrera

September 4, 1948 — June 21, 2023

Casper, Wyoming

Rosalie “Rosie” Carrera, 74, was born at the hospital in Casper, Wyoming on September 4, 1948, and passed at the same hospital on June 21, 2023.  She was the daughter of Esther Carrera Sayas and Jose Antonio Sayas. She was raised primarily with her sister Patricia by their loving grandparents Concepcion and Celestino Carrera (owners El Centro restaurant) who eventually adopted Rosalie.  Her grandmother Concepcion was a staunch advocate for Rosalie and all of her special needs friends.  She worked tirelessly along with AJ Woods and other grandparents/parents to establish Casper’s first special needs school and to support the group home project.  Because of their dedication, Rosalie was one of the first to attend the school and one of the first in the group home program where she resided for the rest of her life. The family thanks the Casper community for their ongoing support for Rosalie and her friends.  Rosalie loved competing in Special Olympics including roller skating, bowling, swimming and won many trophies as well as medals she loved to wear!  She also loved riding her bike, dancing, art projects, making bead jewelry, her doll collection and working on puzzles.  She loved listening to country western music on her stereo including Charlie Pride, Tammy Wynette, Elvis, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and also loved to watch old westerns especially John Wayne. She was a special person who loved life and brought joy to all those who knew her and always seemed to bring a smile to their face. Rosalie’s family appreciates the dedication and care of NOWCAP Services staff and all the other organizations who worked with her both past and present.

Celebrant Father Ray Rodriguez from St Anthony Catholic Church will conduct graveside services on July 21, 2023, at Noon at Highland Cemetery (next to the fence at the corner of 4th Street and Conwell).  A celebration of her life and lunch to follow at St Anthony Church basement (handicapped accessible).  She was loved by all and will be very missed by family and friends.
