He was educated in North Carolina and attended Princess Ann High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Ron and his dad traveled to Wyoming by train in 1948, where his dad found work on Kortes Dam. Later Ron worked at different construction jobs as an oiler and mechanic on heavy equipment. He loved to roller skate and went skating with his grandkids every Thursday when he was working in a gold mine near Las Vegas, NV. He loved to dance to all the 50's rock-n-roll music. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandkids and teaching them how to shoot a BB gun and sitting on his deck watching the wildlife. He enjoyed watching NASCAR.
