Roberta Smith

May 10, 1933 — January 6, 2018

Roberta Jean Smith was better known as Nana or Bert by her friends and family. She was born to Robert William Covalt and Helen Lee (Speer) Covalt in Broadwater, Nebraska on May 10, 1933. Roberta married Walter Carl Smith of Norristown, Pennsylvania on December 23, 1954, in Minatare, Nebraska. They lived in many different places including Price, Utah; Powell, Wyoming; Melstone, Montana; Lander, Wyoming; Grand Junction, Colorado and Bar Nunn, Wyoming. After retirement they often spent winters in Arizona. Roberta was a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother, and new great-grandmother. She was a talented seamstress, a gracious hostess (especially around the holidays), and an avid cross-stitcher. She was a devoted Christian who was active in her church and passed that value on to her children. She had many opportunities to serve the Lord such as teaching Sunday school and Bible school, hosting potlucks, and helping with Bible camp. Roberta died of pneumonia at Wyoming Medical Center on January 6, 2018. She was 84 years old. Her passing was peaceful and she was surrounded by her family. They would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and housekeeping staff of the Wyoming Medical Center, who were thoughtful, kind and compassionate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Carl Smith; her parents, Robert William and Helen Lee (Speer) Covalt; a sister, Shirley Goddard (Bud-deceased). She is survived by her sister Phyllis Goddard (Gordon-deceased); her children Wendy Smith; Robert Smith (Della) and their children: Heath and Wesley, and a great-grand child Isabella Grace Smith; Nancy Jo Garbutt, (Jim) and their children: Caleb, Kassidi, Benjamin, and Daniel.
