Roberta Jean Cook Micek was born November 17, 1939, in Casper, Wyoming, the eldest child of Wyoming Pioneers Robert W. Cook and Norma Norene Price Cook. Jean passed away November 3, 2017 at age 77 in Central Wyoming Hospice Home, Casper, after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Jean was named after her father, but disliked the name Roberta, always preferring to be called Jean. She grew up in Casper and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1958. She married George Micek, April 12, 1958. In 2017 they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Jean worked at Westridge Bakery, Donell's Candies and Goedicke's Paints before she settled in at Small Business Administration where she worked her way up to Loan Specialist and retired after a long career of faithful service. Jean and George enjoyed many years of traveling, cycling, backpacking, skiing, camping, photography, and painting. Jean was formerly Secretary/Treasurer and served on the Board of Directors and Loan Committee of Casper Feds FCU. She was a member and Secretary of Sweet Adelines, Inc., and a member of the Casper Artists Guild. She was a marvelous seamstress and creator of beautiful hand knit and crocheted sweaters, blankets, and other items. She designed and created a gorgeous wedding dress for her daughter, Cathy, which was also worn by granddaughter Eddie at her own wedding in September, 2017. Jean created hundreds of hand knit and crocheted afghans which she gave away to family members and to local charities benefitting orphans and children in our community. She was smart, funny, fun loving, principled, faithful, honest, talented and kind. She was the best daughter , wife, mom, mother-in-law, grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend ever. We are thankful we were privileged to have had her in our lives. Jean is survived by her husband George and son Craig of Casper; daughter, Cathy (Cliff) Hutton of Cody; granddaughter, Ashley (Aron) Powell and great-grandson, Finn of Enoch, UT; granddaughter, Eddie (Dane) Cunningham of Craig, CO; sister, Mary Rickart and sister-in-law, Judy Cook of Casper; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was preceded in death by brothers William L. and Michael Steven Cook, and her parents. A Rosary will be held at 7:00PM, Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Bustard' s Funeral Home. A Mass of Celebration will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery, Evansville, WY.
