Roberta, 87, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2012 at Central Wyoming Hospice with her family present. Roberta was born on May 12, 1924 in Soper, Oklahoma, the third daughter of six children born to Mills Albert Harris and Pearl Mae Maxwell. Roberta and her family traveled Oklahoma and Texas and finally settled in Hobbs, New Mexico. She graduated from Hobbs High School in 1943, and went to work for the Hobbs Air Force Base. During her years there, she traveled the country with the high ranking officers for security measures. While still working for the Air Force Base, she met the love of her life, Virgil J. Hollis in 1945. They were married March 12, 1948. While living in New Mex, they worked together on two businesses; New Mexico Construction and Hollis Construction. In 1951, her first child, a son, Richard was born and she became a stay at home Mom. Then in 1954 her second child, a daughter, Jacqueline was born. In 1955 a third child, Cynthia joined them and finally in 1956 her fourth child, William completed her family. During these years, she was a Cub Scout leader and a room mother to her children's classes' at school. By November of 1963, the family was on its way to a new home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She kept herself involved in her children's sports activities and scouting for their sons. She loved Santa Fe because of the streams, rivers, mountains and all the outside activities you could do as a family. But this wasn't to last long. In April of 1968, the family made a decision to move to Casper, Wyoming to start a new life by running her brother-in-law's new business which later they bought and is still going today as Totem Construction. She worked there for 42 years or until the age of 86. Roberta was affectionately known as Grandma by her children's friends, grandchildren's friends and employees. Roberta was a life time member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 9439. Roberta is survived by four children, Richard Hollis, Casper, Jacqueline Byrd, Casper, Cynthia Robison (Gene) of Casper and William Hollis (Kris) of Kingman, Arizona and Casper. Also surviving is a step daughter, Peggy Anschutz, Cabazon, California; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Billye Irion of Rio Rancho, NM, and Peg Long (Travis) of Ceres, CA and many nieces and nephews from all over the United States. Hollis, her sister and brother-in-law, Zuemac and Ben Dillard and her other sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Harold DeShurley and her sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Bill Lupardus and her brother-in-law, David (Jake) Irion.
