Robert Bailey

October 25, 1922 — July 1, 2014

Robert D. Bailey, a long time Casper resident and businessman, passed away on July 1 in Durham NC. He had been living with his son's family for the past 6 years. He was born near Boyd, MT on a family ranch on Oct 25,1922 to Carl and Ethel Bailey. He was raised in Billings MT and attended Billings Senior High until he joined the Navy in 1942. He saw action in the south Pacific, including the Philippine Campaign. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a 1st class mate. Upon his return home, he met and married Rosalind Ames. They married in December of 1946 and then moved to Casper, WY early in 1948. Throughout his career, he worked at various companies including Meredith GMC Trucks as a mechanic/machinist. In 1960 he began a successful 10-year business venture as the owner/operator of Bob Bailey's Conoco at 5th and Center. After selling that business, he worked for King Tire Company and Casper Service and Supply until he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and growing various crops. He was an active Mason and Past Master of Casper Lodge #15 as well as a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite in Casper. More recently, he became an Honorary Member of Fellowship Lodge #687 A.F. & A.M. in Durham NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill Bailey of Billings MT, his sister Margaret Rammerman of Sun Lake AZ, and his wife Rosalind of Casper WY. He is survived by his son William Bailey and family of Durham NC, daughters CJ Bowling and Marilyn Fairchild of Loveland CO. Memorials may be made to The Shriner's Hospital for Children in Salt Lake City, UT. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 11, 2014, at Oregon Trail Veteran's Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Natrona County United Veterans Council and the Wyoming Army National Guard. Masonic Honors will be accorded by Masonic Lodge #15.
