Richard Cardenas

Richard Louis Cardenas (Louie), 52, of Casper passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016. He was born on December 27, 1963 In Lander, Wyoming to Louis Albert Cardenas and Sandra Fay (Manning) Pope. In his younger years growing up he loved to ride dirt bikes and did a lot of skateboarding in swimming pools whenever he could find one empty. He went to live with his father in Albuquerque N.M. a while after his parents divorced. It was during high school he joined the Air Force where he proudly served for the next ten years, receiving numerous medals, awards and citations of excellence during his time making it to an E4 (Buck Sargent). He also served with the National Guard for a time in Wyoming. After leaving the Air Force he married Linda Carol Weisleder on January 21, 1982 in Vernon Texas while still in the service. They lived abroad and in many other states. During his 24 years of marriage he was blessed with three wonderful children. Brandi Rae (Cardenas) Chatelain of Big Piney, WY., Joseph Lois Cardenas of Mountain View, WY, and Codi Marie Cardenas of Laramie, WY. He was a member of the ABATE of Nebraska. Motorcycles and bike rally's became a part of him along with the hog roast with his brothers and many friends. He loved the outdoors, from taking a bike ride on a dirt road or a trip to Sturgis for a rally and camping and fishing whenever he could. He was a proud father and an excellent provider. He was quick with a joke and loved Bob Dylan, the Doors as well as Johnny Cash. After receiving his AMP license he worked as an airplane mechanic for many years while living in Greybull, WY. Before moving to Kemmerer, WY.he became a precision millwright working with TIC of Wyoming. Louie loved spending time with his kids, especially when it came to riding dirt bikes. He bought them their first bikes and taught them to ride. He loved to go hunting with his grandfather whenever he could get away to lander, WY. In the later part of his life Louie moved to Casper, WY while working with TIC. He would give to the homeless and cared deeply for people in need, making it a part of who he was as well as writing poetry. All of his quirks and smiles will be missed. He survived by his parents Louis (Peggy) Cardenas and Sandra (Charles) Pope, his children Brandi (Cody), Joseph and Codi; brothers Steven Cardenas, Jason Cardenas, Edward (Eddie) Pope, his sister Marica (Scott) England, grandson Owen Leo Chatelain and his beloved grandmother Pearl Burteh. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Natrona County United Veterans Council and the United States Air Force. Donations may be made in his name to Joshua's Storehouse.
