CASPER - Richard Walker Barrett died peacefully at Wyoming Medical Center after a short battle with cancer on August 24, 2019. Richard was born to Richard and Christine Barrett in Scottsbluff, NE on August 1, 1946. His family moved to Casper, WY in the 1960's. After graduating from Natrona County High School, he served in the National Guard and the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1969, with one tour of duty in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division, Company A 1st Engineer Battalion from 1967-1968. Richard was honorably discharged on December 16, 1969. He met his wife of 50 years, Kathleen O'Hearn, in high school and they were married March 1, 1969. They had three children, Sheila (Korey) Umbach, Jennifer (Kevin) Palmer and Richie Barrett. After his military service Richard worked mostly in the Oil Field. He worked for MI Swaco for over 40 years before his retirement in 2016. Richard was an excellent provider for his family and had an unparalleled work ethic. After retirement he enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren, and breakfasts with his siblings. Richard is survived by his wife and children; siblings, Kenneth (Janet) Barrett, Jane (Kenneth) Stack, Jean Ann Waldron, and Paul (Julie) Barrett; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. There will be a service at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1401 CY Ave., on September 6, 2019 at 10:30am.
