Pauline Schultz

Pauline L. "Gammie" Schultz, formerly of Midwest, WY, answered "the Royal Telephone" at home and went to be with her Lord and Savior October 30, 2011, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. She was born on June 7, 1915 in Cleveland OH. On June 7, 1934 she married Walter Schultz. They resided in The Salt Creek Oil Field in Midwest, WY. She was active in her Baptist Church, numerous social and civic organizations and taught Bible studies, knitting, crocheting, mothers' study clubs, and was craft chairperson for the Senior Citizens. In 1980, Pauline founded the "Salt Creek Oil Field Museum." Its contents have been preserved and listed in the Wyoming State Historical Archives. She retained her position as founder and curator of the Museum until she retired at age 92. At that time she moved to Hixson, TN to live with her daughter, Rose, and "son-in-love," Wayne Barrington. The town of Midwest declared June 7th to be "Pauline Schultz Day." She was recognized as the "Citizen of the Century." At the 2004 History Day Award ceremony held in Casper, WY, she was recognized as the "History Day Distinguished Citizen." As founder/curator of The Salt Creek Museum, Pauline was included in the Joint Resolution of the 58th Legislature of the State of Wyoming, recognizing museums and supporting the goals and ideals of the "Year of the Museum 2006." She was honored by the Central Wyoming Retired and Senior Volunteer Program for logging 4,108 hours; given the "President's Call to Service Award" from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, 2007. She was awarded "The Medal of Honor for the National Endowment of the Arts and Humanities" by President George W. Bush, in a ceremony held at The White House, Washington, DC. The Proclamation read: "Pauline Lois Schultz, founder, curator and author, is being recognized for stewardship of a precious trove of local historical knowledge. She has been a collector and curator of facts and artifacts that capture a century of human experience on Wyoming's high plains." Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Charles Miller; her husband, Walter F. Schultz; daughter, Annalee Bennett and two brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Rose Barrington of Hixson, TN; June Beers, Tulsa, OK; eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and the hundreds who called her "Gammie." Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Restoration Church with her grandson, Pastor Chris White officiating. Inurnment will be at Highland Cemetery. Her family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, November 11, 2011 at Bustard's Funeral Home West Chapel.
