Paul Douglas Quickstad, 77, of Belle Fourche, SD, passed away on January 31, 2024 in Casper, WY.
Paul was born in Brainerd, MN to Dale and Virginia Quickstad on December 7, 1946. He attended high school in Hettinger, ND and college at Dickinson State University. He served in the United States Air Force for 24 years and attained the rank of Sergeant Major.
First and foremost, Paul had a love of learning and a mind like a steel trap. He had a wealth of knowledge stored in his brain. It wasn’t very often that he couldn’t answer a question correctly for you. If you were to let him have the first turn in a trivia game, it was possible that you wouldn’t get a chance to play.
His love of learning also meant that he loved to experience things. This love of experience led him to join the Air Force where he was stationed in North Dakota, Alaska, Florida, South Korea, Iceland, and Vietnam. He also loved to experience the quiet solitude of the outdoors through hunting. If he had had his way, we would have been living in the middle of a huge tract of land with the house right by a lake.
Finally, he turned this love of learning and experience into a love of art. He was constantly trying to gain some new art skill. He became very adept at drawing hands, figures, and people in general. The world lost a great, but never realized artist when it lost him.
Paul is survived by his wife, Kim of Belle Fourche; his sister, Sue Arnegard; his brothers Bob and Jim Quickstad; his daughter Cortney Quickstad Menendez; his step-children Rebecca Sims, Miki Nakajima, Jessica Sims, Martin Nakajima, Tiffany Nakajima, Kevin Nakajima, and Robin Nakajima; and his grandchildren Katelyn, Mark, Graydon, Alex, Miya, Isaac, and Lily.
