Orley Johnson passed away on February 8, 2012. Orley was born April 28, 1918 to Roy Asbury Johnson and Maude Effa Carlisle in Newport, Nebraska. He spent his younger years in Nebraska moving to Wyoming as a teenager. In 1942 he married Maxine McCall, they were divorced in 1947. During WW II, Orley served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corp in the Pacific theater as a pilot with the 159th Liaison Squadron. Liaison pilots flew small single engine planes into remote jungle air strips or onto beaches to provide supplies, carry messages and retrieve wounded personnel. Orley was especially proud of the fact that the squadron that he was a part of did not lose a single plane although several were riddled with enemy fire. Orley received several medals including a Bronze Star. Upon returning to the states, Orley became a truck driver with several companies including Salt Creek Freightways. Later he became a heavy equipment operator for Standard Oil, predecessor to AMOCO and BP. During this phase of his life, he met and married Clarice Lewis Moore in April 1952. Clarice passed away in September 2011. During his retirement, Orley enjoyed family reunions, reunions with his squadron fellows and his annual elk hunt in the Tetons. At the age of 92, Orley bagged his last elk, even though he hunted just this last fall. Orley was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother Walter and sisters Vera Clements and Bernice Morgan. He is survived by his brother Lyle Johnson and wife Betty of Casper, step children Dean Moore and Kay Hunt and step grandchildren Kelly (Opal) Hunt of Cheyenne & Larra Hunt. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Jean Romero of Casper, Roy Clements of Blythe, CA, Connie Whitley of Northglenn, CO, Dennis (Bob) and his wife Jenny of Littleton, CO, Larry Clements of Huntington Beach, CA, James Clements of Grants Pass, OR, Dennis Morgan and wife Cheryl of Cody, Michelle (Mikki) Deromedi of Powell, Kerry Morgan and wife Pat of Lander, Barbara Blodgin and husband Billie, Lyle Johnson, Jr. and wife Cathie, and Linda Garriott and husband Tim all of Casper, and Devona Saylor and husband Steve of Louisville, CO. Following his request, there will be no services. Orley will be cremated and his ashes placed in his favorite spot. Memorials t o the family may be left at Bustard's Funeral Home.
