Oliver J. Eshelman, 91 passed away April 20, 2016. He was born in Casper, WY to Oliver D. Eshelman and Alice (Taylor)Eshelman on April 17, 1925. He loved his entire life in Casper. At the age of 18 he joined the Navy and served in World War II. His experiences in the military left life long memories that were told many times to everyone who would listen. He never tired of revisiting those experiences. After returning back to Casper upon discharge he married and had three children, Oliver D., Bert, and Alice. He divorced and met what would be the love of his life Joan Bennett. There was nothing he would not do for her. On August 23, 1955 he married Joan and their journey together began. Their family began with the births of their children, Robert B., John D., Vernon L., and Virginia A. His children meant the world to him. The love of building led to his career as a journey-man carpenter. He was like an encyclopedia when it came to his knowledge concerning construction. This skill was taught to his sons early to his sons early. One of his favorite things to do was on every job-site he would inscribe his initials OJE somewhere to be found later by someone in the future. He traveled throughout the state of Wyoming so who knows how many sets of those initials are out there. He also had a passion for gambling. He had stories of the poker and dice games that he went to in various places in Casper. Some seemed almost unbelievable! Again these were skills he passed on to his children at an early age. His metal detector was another hobby he had in search of unknown riches. No great success stories, but he sure enjoyed the searches. He also was a life member of the Casper Elks Lodge 1352. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Evelyn Kimball, Merriam Walker, Alice Manning, Ernest, Vernon, and Robert. Survivors include his wife, Joan Eshelman; children, Robert (Patty) Eshelman, John Eshelman, Vernon (Tawin) Eshelman, and Virginia (Dave) Horton; grandchildren, Mike Eshelman, Robert P. Eshelman, JoAnna Heeney (Eshelman), Greg Langenderfer, Joey Langenderfer, and Tommy Eshelman; and many great-grandchildren; nephews; and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Bustard's Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Evansville.
