Casper - Nicholas Baxter Loundagin, 84, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial for Nicholas will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church by Father Hugo L. Blotsky, OSB, Thursday, December 21 at 10:00 a.m. Following a reception after Mass in O'Reilly Hall, burial services will be held at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. for family members. Born in Berkley, California to Nicholas Ficklin and Louise Baxter Loundagin, he and his older sister Joey moved throughout the California region as his father took on various editorial roles with Time magazine. Nick spent his summers with family in the Owens Valley and High Sierra Mountains, exploring, hunting and fishing which formed strong bonds and fond, lifelong memories that were communicated at every opportunity he had to discuss them. He graduated from the University of California - Berkley in geology where met the love of his life Connie. After graduation, Nick joined The California Company (Chevron Oil) whereby he took his California bride to North Dakota/Montana to work and study the Williston Basin. Nick entered the Air Force in 1955 and was stationed in Tucson, Arizona for pilot training school which brought warmth to Connie's bones. He was transferred to St. Louis, Missouri for active duty, flying various aircraft and making lifelong friends, returning to reunions to reminisce about the good old flying days. He retired from active duty with the rank of Captain and remained in the Air Force Reserve for many years. Nick returned to Chevron after his military service and was transferred to the Casper Office, again working the Rocky Mountain Region as a geologist. He left Chevron in the late 1960's to pursue opportunities as an entrepreneur in Wyoming, starting a drilling company and advancing his passion as an Oil and Gas Independent, concentrating his expertise and efforts in the Powder and Wind River Basins. He loved the oil and gas industry and was always proud of the discoveries he and his partners made and the people he met throughout his working life. Always driven, curious and well read, Nick stayed very involved with his business, family and friends. Annual trips to the beaches of Southern California with Connie and family, acquiring a helicopter and taking flying lessons in his 70's, raising and breeding Labrador Retrievers for hunting and competition, deep sea fishing expeditions and hunting adventures to Argentina and South Dakota became more important to him in taking every opportunity to foster the relationships with his grandchildren while always sharing his love for lifelong learning. Having lived a full and eventful life, Nicholas leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Connie (Lacy) Loundagin; his daughter Lindy Smith; his three sons Gordon, Barton and Peter; his nine grandchildren and five black labs. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nick can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of Bustard's Funeral Home. .
