Murray Wallace Reed passed away on June 30th at Central Wyoming Hospice after a battle with cancer. Murray was born to William Reed and Francis Walrath Reed in Artesian, SD on December 11, 1923. He graduated from Converse County High School in May of 1942 and soon after joined the US Navy as a Motor Machinist's Mate Second Class in September of 1943. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was present on the USS Missouri when the treaty with Japan was signed. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was Honorably Discharged March of 1946. He then came back to Douglas and married Joan Millet on March 2nd of 1950. He was a self taught brick layer and worked for numerous companies in Colorado and Wyoming and then settling in Casper in 1961. Murray went into business with his brother Richard (Dick) Reed specializing in the construction of brick fire places until their retirement in the late 70's. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and looked forward to his annual elk hunting trips with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brother's Ellis, Wesley and Dick, and niece's Debby Reed & Erin Reed. Survived by his wife of 60 years Joan, their 3 children: Stanley & wife Jackie, Robert, Janet & husband Don, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 6th at 2 p.m. at Oregon Trail Veterans' Cemetery, Evansville, WY. A gathering will be held for family and friends after the services at the United Church of Christ on 15th & Melrose in Casper, WY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice at 319 South Wilson St., Casper, WY 82601-2943.
