Michael J. "Mike" Phillips, died January 24, 2014, after a three week stay at Life Care Center of Casper. He fought a courageous battle with dementia. He was born Sept. 7, 1929, in Evansville, Wyo., to Stephen M. Phillips and Clara Margaret Magee Phillips. He attended St. Anthony's School and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1948. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. Mike worked in the sheet metal industry (for various shops) retiring in 1988 from Pancratz Company. At the time of his death, he still was a member of Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 103. After his retirement, he began a 2nd career building electric boat lifts at Alcova Lake. He installed dozens at the Casper Water Ski Club, Lakeside Marina and Cabin area. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and water skier and loved to tell of all the children he taught to water ski. His favorite place was Alcova Lake and the Casper Water Ski Club and was one of a few who originally organized the Ski Club in 1957 and was still a member at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 103 and the American Legion Post 312 in Broadwater, Neb. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle "Myrt" Phillips; daughter, Laura Lopez of Casper; son, Michael "Mike" Phillips, Jr., (Joelle), of Casper; grand-daughters, Emily and Rylee Lopez of Denver; Abby Phillips of Casper; grandson, Parker Phillips of Casper; and sister, Anne Hool (Bob), of Casper. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Mark Phillips. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2014, Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery.
