Maxine Taggart

September 16, 1931 — March 26, 2019

Memorial services for Maxine A. Taggart, age 87, are scheduled for Saturday, March 30th at 1 pm. She was born September 16, 1931 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Joe and Caroline Shook. She attended school in Hot Springs until she graduated in 1950. She married Dale D. Taggart on June 3, 1950 in Rapid City, South Dakota. They moved to Casper in 1952, where Dale started working in the construction business. In 1963 she became involved with Natrona County School District (NCSD). She became cafeteria manager at Kelly Walsh High School in 1971 and loved working there until 1989, when she transferred to Centennial Junior High, to act as cafeteria manager until her retirement in 1993. Her innovative approach to running a school cafeteria began when she chaired a committee of students to make lunch recommendations and to include more choices of food and an a la carte line. She and the committee received the Louis Sublette Award for the State of Wyoming as an outstanding cafeteria and Maxine, as cafeteria manager. She served as president of the Wyoming School Food Service Association and had been an active member for twenty years. She is still well known for her cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies throughout the entire school; anyone who ever has the pleasure of attending that school while she was manager, still talks about them. She loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed dancing, reading, music and working in her yard, especially with her rose bushes. She had a magnificent collection of beautiful artwork, including many local aspiring artists. She is survived by her three daughters, Linda L. Taggart, from Casper; Cynthia I. Hannan, from Evanston; Patricia A. Taggart from Casper; three sisters, Irene Wetstein of Lockport, Illinois; Mary Derrick of Hot Springs South Dakota; Carolyn Zimiga of Pine Ridge, South Dakota; two brothers, Keith Shook of Willard, Ohio; Ronnie Shook of Hot Springs South Dakota; six grandchildren, Sean and Lexi Taggart, Teal and BriannaTaggart, Marc and Chanel Hannan, Matt Hannan, Siobhan Taggart, Teala Taggart, thirteen great grandchildren, Sidnne Taggart, Sean Taggart, Shane Taggart, Taylor Taggart, Michael Taggart, Eden Taggart, Marquis Taggart, Zoey Taggart, Allison Taggart, Nikko Taggart, Elle Hawkins, Audrey Hannan, Lydia Taggart and Kassidi Hannan. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale in 1992, her parents, and a brother Clarence Shook, a sister, Sharon Nehes, and her grandson Michael Taggart. Cremation will be held under the direction of Bustards Funeral Home. Services will be held at Rock of Ages Church, Saturday March 30th at 1 pm. Her family requests the pleasure of your company before the cremation, to celebrate her life. She will be missed by many.
