Funeral services for Maxine M. McCowen, 92, will be held Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery. She passed away August 2, 2015 in Casper. Maxine was born April 13, 1923 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to Shelby Newton and Vivian (Morris) Highsmith. She was raised on a farm East of Mt. Vernon. On September 5, 1942 she married the love of her life; Kenneth E. McCowen. They farmed in Waltonville, Illinois on land given to them by her father from 1942 until they left Illinois to move to Casper, WY in 1963. Maxine enjoyed growing roses, crocheting, fishing and camping, artwork, painting, and traveling in their motor home but nothing was more near and dear to her than her family. She taught us how to work hard, love in abundance and appreciate the little things. Words will never be enough to tell all that she meant to us. She was an amazing woman, kind, giving, patient and loving. Maxine will forever be missed by her daughter, Connie Balben of Casper; Granddaughter, Andrea Crook (J.R.) of Gillette, and 3 great grandchildren, Ashley, Colten, and Joseph Crook, her sister Doris and her brother Shelby, nephew, Terry and his wife Carol as well as her niece Brenda and life long friend Bob. Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth; three sisters, Mabel Taylor, Wilma "Billy" Highsmith and Aline Loy. Memorials may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson, Casper WY 82601.
