Mary Wolcott

Mary Ella (Finlayson) Wolcott, age 85 died peacefully on September 7th, 2017 at home in Casper. She was born March 21st, 1932 to Kenneth and Margaret (Mackay) Finlayson in Lander, Wyoming. She was the fifth child of six children. She had a happy childhood and felt fortunate growing up when and where she did enjoying her family and friends. Mary Ella was a very kind and caring person and will be missed by all. Mary Ella graduated Lander high school in 1950, then proceed to Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana acquiring her Registered Nurses Degree in January of 1954. She practiced her nursing profession in Billings, Casper, Bishop Randall Hospital in Lander and as a substitute nurse at the North and South Lander Grade Schools. During her years of nursing she practiced in many areas including, surgery, obstetrics, emergency room and ambulance care. Mary Ella married Donald Dean Wolcott in the Methodist Church of Lander on December 22nd 1957. Mary Ella and Donald were married nearly 60 years. Donald was a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator in the Fort Washakie, state department of education, Lander and Natrona County schools. They raised four children. During her life Mary Ella stayed involved with activities of the community, enjoyed crafting, social and genealogy organizations and her family. She was an active member of the Wyoming Family and Community Education Homemakers Club, Natrona Country Home Makers Club and Sage Glenn Club. She held many offices in the state, county and within the clubs. She enjoyed her leadership for Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. Mary Ella served for more than 20 years as a voting Election Judge Coordinator organizing and managing voting activities for local, state and federal elections. Her love of writing included correspondence with many Veterans over the years. Mary Ella is survived by her husband, Donald, her son Donald (Karina) of Alaska, two daughters, Lisa of Colorado and Karen (Jerry) Shepherd of Utah, four granddaughters Brenna, Hailey, Kimberley, Brianna Wolcott, two grandsons Dylan and Lev and two step grandchildren Jerry and Jamie Shepherd, sister Catherine Smail, two sisters in law Jacque and Marijane Finlayson, many nieces and nephews and a cousin Cathma Thomas of Scotland. Mary Ella was preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Kenneth Finlayson, three brothers Duncan, Kenneth (Korean War), Charles, sister Margaret her son Kenneth and a nephew George Finlayson. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation in her name to the Casper Humane Society, the Lander Methodist Church, Wyoming Homemakers Scholarship or charity of your choice. Family and friends services will be held on Thursday, September 14th, from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper. Memorial service will be held Friday, September 15th from 4:00 to 5:00 PM with a dinner reception to follow at the Lander Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander, Wy on Saturday, September 16th, with a picnic in the Lander City Park following. .
