Mary Jean (Reimer) Parson Casper, WY September 15, 1930-January 1, 2015 Mary Jean (Reimer) Parson was born in Denver, Colorado at St. Anthony's Hospital on September 15, 1930 to Fred Reimer and Ethel (Lovitt) Reimer. She grew up in Golden, CO, where her parents owned and operated a Red and White grocery store. She graduated from Golden High School in 1948 and then graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in elementary education from the University of Colorado in 1952. While in college, Jean met her future husband, Elmer Parson. After graduation, she began her career teaching 1st grade in Portland, OR. She and Elmer were married on December 27, 1953 at the United Methodist Church in Golden, CO. Their son Dean was born in Boulder, CO in 1957. They then moved to Casper, WY in late 1958 where her husband was employed as a geologist by Continental Oil Company. Their daughter Anne was born in Casper in 1960. Jean taught special reading at Jefferson and Park elementary schools until she retired in 1982. Jean was an avid birder, an active member of the Muri Audubon Society, and other conservation groups. She loved to hike, snowshoe, cross-country ski, and many other outdoor activities. She was an active member of PEO Chapter AC, Geowives, Red Hatters, Casper Needle Work Guild, and Wyoming Education Association. She was a life-long member of The United Methodist Church. Jean was a long-standing supporter of Casper music and theater groups. She was also a member of Friends of the Library. Her life-long passion was to share her love of reading, especially with young children. She is survived by her husband Elmer S. Parson, Jr., son Dean R. Parson and wife Franki C. Parson of Bozeman, MT, daughter Anne P. Wallin and husband Sten A. Wallin of Midland, MI and grandchildren Hillary E. Johns-Parson and her husband Capt. Bradley Johns-Parson, Marissa J. Wallin, Alec R. Parson and Lars R. Wallin Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bustards Funeral Directors. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 302 East 2nd Street in Casper, WY at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 9th. Visitation with the family will be at Bustards Funeral Home on Friday, January 8th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to The Audubon Society, First United Methodist Church of Casper, or a charity of the donor's choice.
