Services for Mary Jean MacKearney O'Connor will be held at the Midwest Methodist Church on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1 p.m., with Tracy Sutherland officiating. Mary died of natural causes at her home on January 1, 2014. Cremation has taken place. She was born May 10, 1936 in Midwest, the daughter of Roderick and Mildred MacKearney. She graduated from Midwest High School in 1954 with Honors, being selected as the outstanding student in her class. She married Harold Ray O'Connor on June 17, 1955. Mary and Harold had lived in Midwest their entire lives. She was employed by the Midwest Post Office retiring on February 2, 2002 after working 42 years. She was appointed Post Master on February 5, 1972. Being a strong supporter of Postmasters and the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, she was honored with a national leadership award and a memorial award from the organization. Mary was a Pillar in her community. She served as a City Council member and Mayor. Being a member of the Midwest Methodist church she was the organist and had been for many years. Her piano skills had her singing and playing for many weddings and funerals. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing numerous cheerleading outfits, prom and bridesmaid dresses for her daughters and their friends. Besides her own connection in Jobs Daughters, she participated in all her daughter's involvements in the organization. Mary was instrumental in organizing and then being keenly involved with Salt Creek Days for many years. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, throwing darts and being a Denver Broncos fan. She thoroughly enjoyed watching and being involved with her daughters, grandchildren's and great grandchildren's accomplishments in high school and college. Survivors include her four daughters, Connie Haggerty, Cheryl and Larry Donovan, Patti Rouse and Charles Marcus, and Peggy and William Wittick; one sister, Evelyn Sutherland; grandchildren, Kendra Ward, Jerry Ragsdale; Eric Donovan; Dennis Farris, Mandi Rouse; Charles, Marshal and Heather Wittick; great grandchildren, Daine, Blaike and Reese Ward; Teagyn and Brecklyn Ragsdale; Zaiver Hinton, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, an infant granddaughter, one nephew, and a son-in-law. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Salt Creek Emergency Services would be greatly appreciated by her family.
