Marjorie C. Lawson, 87, died suddenly and and unexpectedly from heart failure at her home in Casper on May 2, 2012. At her request, there are no plans for a formal funeral service at this time. Marjorie was one of four children born to her parents, Barnum and Saima Bailey. She was born September 27, 1924 in Hanna, Wyoming, and educated in Hanna. Following graduation from high school in Hanna, she began attending the University of Wyoming in 1942. During her tenure at the university, she spent summers working at various defense plants around the country in order to support the war effort. After graduating from the University of Wyoming with honors, she taught school in La Grange, Wyoming, where she was held in high regard by both the students and faculty. Marjorie married Don Lawson, a Medicine Bow, Wyoming native, in 1950 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska where Don was working as a petroleum geologist. Later, they lived in Evanston, Wyoming for a period of time where Don continued his work as a petroleum geologist. They moved to Casper in the 1950's where Marjorie and Don would spend the remainder of their lives. She was a great lover of animals, and she worked tirelessly her entire life to support various animal shelters and the Humane Society. She was instrumental in improving and securing funding for the Casper Humane Society's various facilities in Casper. Marjorie designed, wrote and paid for numerous advertisements in an attempt to generate funds for various animal welfare groups. In addition, she also contributed money to international efforts to save wild tigers. Marjorie took great pride in her children, and in particular, the educationof her four children. She always put her children before herself and made great personal and financial sacrafices to ensure that all her children graduated from college. Marjorie is survived by her husband Don of 62 years, her daughter Leslie Lawson and husband Dan Himelspach of Denver, Colorado, daughter Dawn Lawson of Casper, and her two sons, Jay in Cheyenne, and Bruce in Casper. Marjorie is also survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer Lawson of Casper, Mariah and Jonathan Himelspach of Denver, Colorado, and one great granddaughter, Kylar Heath of Casper, Wyoming. She was proceeded in death by her parents and one brother. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Casper Humane Society.
