Marilyn J. Manning

Marilyn Johanne Manning (Kortum), “Mama Duck”, 87, of Casper, Wyoming passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, at the Life Care Center in Casper, Wyoming. Marilyn was born in Green River, Wyoming to Woodrow Wilson Kortum and Katherine Gertrude McCall on July 14, 1937. She attended Rawlins High School in Rawlins, Wyoming and graduated in 1955. After graduating high school, Marilyn went to earn a secretarial degree from The Barnes Business College in Denver, Colorado. Throughout her life, she worked in the hospitality/food service industry, and over the years she established her own personal clientele. She was employed at the Ramada Inn in Casper, Wyoming for more than 15 years, and Ghost Town Truckstop for 9 ½ years, where she earned the nickname “Mama Duck”. During her many years of working as a waitress, Marilyn also worked at The Answering Service of Casper for 35 years. Marilyn’s favorite hobby was going to Troopers to play BINGO, especially when she was the one yelling, “BINGO!” She also enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles, and watching the Discovery channel, as well as counting her hard-earned tips.

Marilyn is survived by her four children, two sons, Kenneth G. Batchelor of Rawlins, Wyoming and Gary L. Batchelor of Tacoma, Washington and two daughters, Linda M. Batchelor of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Lorie K. Batchelor of Casper, Wyoming. She is also survived by one sister, Sharon Johnson of Casper, Wyoming and two brothers, Don Chavanu of Lexington, Nebraska and Lee McCall of Asheville, North Carolina, as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Percy Manning; her parents, Jesse L. and Katherine G. McCall; two sons, Larry Michael Batchelor and Kelly Gene Batchelor; and two sisters, Barbara Maston and Penny Parr.

Marilyn will be sadly missed and remembered for her unique sense of humor, her playful orneriness and spunky personality!

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Fri. Mar. 21, 2025 at Bustard & Jacoby Funeral Home. Father Clark Lenz will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
