Marilyn Burpee

August 29, 1942 — April 18, 2017

Marilyn Kay Burpee, 74, of Casper, WY passed away at Central Wyoming Hospice on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. She was born the youngest of eleven children on August 29, 1942 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to proud German immigrant parents, Henry and Katherine (Stroh) Willman. She started working at Texaco in the 1970's working her way up from a secretarial position to the HR department before retiring. Marilyn lived in Shoshoni and Riverton before settling in Casper in 1968. It was in Denver that she met Bob Burpee and the couple married in 1993. Marilyn had an extensive vocabulary and instilled her love of reading in her children. She loved poetry, card games (especially pinochle), jigsaw puzzles, knitting, and road trips. She collected music boxes, paper dolls, and carousels. When her vision was better she loved singing in the church choir, but always enjoyed singing. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. She is survived by her husband, Robert Burpee, of Casper, Wyoming; daughter, Cynthia (Miguel) Cruz, of Oro Valley, Arizona; son, Kevin Lewis, of Tucson, Arizona; granddaughters, Madison Adia and Hannah Citlalli; sisters, Marge and Mildred; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, April 24, 2017 in the chapel at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming with Rev. Brian Oliver officiating. A reception will follow at the First United Methodist Church in Casper, Wyoming. The family suggests that memorial contributions in Marilyn's name be made to Central Wyoming Hospice.
